About Sarah Kourouma, LCSW

The desire to live our lives to the fullest is a powerful and innate human drive. If you've reached a point where you recognize that something is hindering you from experiencing that fullness, and you're ready to embrace meaningful change, I'm here to partner with you on that journey. My goal is to empower you to uncover your true self and create a life that resonates with authenticity and purpose.

Our work together will explore your inner landscape, identifying both the resources that empower you and the patterns that may be creating obstacles to the life you envision. Understanding ourselves is a lifelong process, and acknowledging your readiness for change is a significant and courageous step forward.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience supporting individuals in their pursuit of a more fulfilling life, I bring a deep understanding of the dynamics of personal growth and transformation. I obtained my Master of Social Work degree from Hunter College School of Social Work, and my foundational training in the diverse settings of New York City – including schools, colleges, and mental health clinics – has provided me with a comprehensive perspective on the many facets of well-being. My approach to therapy is holistic, considering the intricate connection between the individual, their environment, and their unique experiences.

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and currently working towards certification, offering a powerful avenue for addressing past experiences that may be limiting your present. My training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) equips me with practical tools to help you navigate challenging emotions and align your actions with your values as you actively create the changes you seek.

For those in Austin, Texas, I offer in-person sessions. Virtual sessions are also available for individuals in Texas and New York, providing accessible support as you embark on this transformative path.

Specialties

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy

A structured therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.

Dialectical (DBT)

DBT teaches people to accept their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and the techniques to change them. Not only are personal skills taught in DBT, but skills for interpersonal relationships are also emphasized. DBT is based on CBT, but it focuses more on the emotional and social aspects of living.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT therapy) is a type of mindful psychotherapy that helps you stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without judgment.

It aims to help you move forward through difficult emotions so you can put your energy into healing instead of dwelling on the negative. With the help of a licensed professional, you'll pick up a collection of coping mechanisms specifically designed for your situation, which you can use throughout your life to handle challenging experiences.
