About Sarah Kourouma, LCSW
The journey to self-discovery is not an easy process. At certain periods we all need support to help uncover and heal the layers within us. My goal is to empower you in finding your true self and live a life that is authentic and genuine.
Our work together will focus on your internal world and the ways in which it supports you and the ways it may be holding you back. Understanding ourselves is a lifelong process.
I am a licensed clinical social worker with over a decade of experience. I am trained in Eye Movement Desenzitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and currently working towards certification. I am also trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Specialties
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy
A structured therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.
Dialectical (DBT)
DBT teaches people to accept their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and the techniques to change them. Not only are personal skills taught in DBT, but skills for interpersonal relationships are also emphasized. DBT is based on CBT, but it focuses more on the emotional and social aspects of living.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT therapy) is a type of mindful psychotherapy that helps you stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without judgment.
It aims to help you move forward through difficult emotions so you can put your energy into healing instead of dwelling on the negative. With the help of a licensed professional, you'll pick up a collection of coping mechanisms specifically designed for your situation, which you can use throughout your life to handle challenging experiences.
